Posterization.

I've always considered myself a pretty big sports fan but something I've never been very fond of is Hockey. I use to attend an occasional Mighty Ducks games back when they played at the Cincinnati Gardens, but that was only to see a fight. Over the course of the 2010 Winter Olympics I have found myself actually interested in the USA hockey games, I watched all of the Canada upset and watched all of yesterday's quarterfinal victory. It's exciting..chances of me following the NHL now? Zero. But I am truly enjoying the run the United States has put together and am looking forward to the semi-final matchup Friday against Finland.

Ended up going to the UC-DePaul basketball game last night, glad I did. While we shot 0-9 from three point range and 14-32 from the free throw line, we still won. Make a couple threes and some more free throws it's a 20 point blow out. Lance Stephenson had the best dunk I've ever seen in person. I went nuts. The crowd went nuts. Born Ready went nuts. He posterized some player on DePaul, basically stiffed armed him too..check out the link below to see the video of the dunk..

Posters are already being made...

The Man.

The actual season of spring, and the spring break part could not come soon enough. Myself and three friends of mine are traveling to Minnesota this year for the week off. Why? To attend my first ever NBA game, Minnesota Timberwolves vs Toronto Raptors. If you follow the NBA, you're probably wondering why we are going to see the Minnesota Timberwolves play..it's one of the cheapest things to do. Since the T-Wolves aren't so great this year, we got a tremendous deal on the tickets and hotel. Our goal is to attend an NBA game in every city that has a team..I'm extremely excited.

Jack Bauer is THE MAN. 24 is awesome, enough said.

Still debating on whether or not I should go to the UC basketball game tonight vs. Depaul. I have tons of homework and whenever I watch this team it frustrates me more than anything. I'll go because I don't want to be a hypocrite; I've always been annoyed by people who don't attend the games to support the team. Maybe, just maybe this team will finally put together a full 40 minutes of basketball.

Nine days until the first spring training games. I love listening to spring training games, hearing players names that you have never heard of. A little over a month until the regular season starts, cannot wait until opening day. I believe this team has a legit shot of making the playoffs but that's what I think of every Reds team.

The Big Red Machine, would have been awesome to have been alive for those days...

Glory Days.

Went 6-0 at the rec center friday after classes. Pretty impressive run, felt the burn during and after the games, well worth it though. Played with Alex and Farfsing, had two different players on our team pretty much every time, didn't matter who was with the three musketeers, we held our own. There was a lot of good competition so it's not like we were beating some cupcakes. It's a lot of fun playing down there with friends, especially when you win.

Unless UC pulls off a miracle and wins the Big East Tournament there will be no NCAA tournament, again. Sigh. I miss the glory days, I miss the days of watching the selection show on sunday to see what seed UC would get..not to see if we even got in the tournament. Disappointing loss today in overtime against Marquette 79-76. Pretty frustrating considering we had the ball with 20 seconds left, tied up. With the GREAT (sarcasm) play call we manage to chuck up a fade away three, the shooter being a career 29% 3 pt shooter. Pathetic. Yancy Gates didn't play the last five minutes of regulation and he didn't see the floor all overtime...why? Marquette's tallest player was 6'6. Makes no sense, no one of the Golden Eagles could guard him, great logic benching him Mick. So frustrating.

Speaking of miracles, how about that USA hockey win over Canada tonight? Can honestly say it was probably the first ever hockey game I watched start to finish, it was awesome! Huge upset over the gold medal favorite Canadians, what a great olympics so far the United States. Now can the United States bring home the gold in hockey and create a miracle part II? We'll find out.

Sigh, I miss the glory days of UC basketball..

Optimistic.

Watched the Tiger Woods press conference today while eating my usual Ham and Cheese sandwich. The apology was exactly what I expected, nothing more nothing less. He stated he was obviously sorry, which I believe and that he didn't know when he'd return to golf. All I have to say is, golf needs him back..ASAP.

Spring training has officially started. I Read countless blogs and websites yesterday about the upcoming baseball season. The most interesting piece I saw was the Reds pitching coach stating that 21 year old Aroldis Chapman could end up making the club as the 5th starter. I for one never thought he had a chance to make the club but it seems like everyone in the Reds organization is being optimistic about his situation.

How about that NBA game last night? Nuggets-Cavaliers, doesn't get any better than that. I still am not sure how Carmelo Anthony pulled off that spin move late in the fourth quarter. Multiple times today walking around I've attempted recreate t the move, epic fail (s.) Lebronwas a beast the whole game, except his last four shots he took that he missed. This overtime thriller was the most exciting NBA regular season game I've ever watched. It was also a lot of fun talking trash today with Cavalier fans. With that being said..look for the Cavaliers to end up with the best record in the NBA this year; with the new addition of Antwan Jamison, I don't see anyone touching them, in the Eastern Conference. Come playoff time, my Nuggets will be ready to beat them again. Lebron will win MVP this year but Melo and company are 2-0 against his team. Can't wait for playoffs!

Enjoy today's photo of Carmelo hitting the game winning shot over Lebron...

Slap In The Face.

Denver Nuggets basketball coach George Karl has been diagnosed with neck/throat cancer. This is his second fight with cancer, best of luck to his recovery. Nuggets take on the Cleveland Cavs tonight, 8pm TNT. I'm excited now for the game because the Cavaliers pulled off a trade for one of the most underrated big men in the league, Antwan Jamison. He averaged 20 and 10 for Washington, I wouldn't expect those same type of numbers because of Lebron, but the man will tremendously help the team. While I still believe the Nuggets would win a seven game series against the Cavs...look for the Cavaliers to win tonight, hope I'm wrong.

UC basketball is pathetic. Tremendous talent, horrible coaching. Inconsistency comes down to coaching, and this team defines the word inconsistent. It's now or never, essentially we need to win our last five games..with the last three games being against top 10 teams..ha.

Big East is going to get screwed when it comes to NCAA tournament teams. It is looking like they will only get 7 or 8 teams in the tournament. Bobby Knight said "they deserve 12 teams but that will never happen; 7 or 8 teams only making the tournament from the Big East would be a slap in the face." #5 Syracuse vs #10 Georgetown tonight, should be a good one.

Shaun White is pretty impressive, greatest ever of his sport I assume? Not a big follower of snowboarding but what he did las night was pretty impressive. Another gold medal for him, now the kid just needs a haircut.

For the first time in my life I have purchased Reds season tickets!...well kinda. Me and four friends bought the 'power pack.' 10 games, including opening day for 100 bucks. Good deal, can't wait! Today is also the day pitcher and catchers report, spring training is here!

Thank You Kind Sir.

Snow day! again! Very clutch. The white death part 3 has officially hit Cincinnati. Today's snowfall broke the record for the most snow in Cincinnati on February 15th. Also the total accumulation of the past two weeks has already broken the record for the most snow in the history of the month of February.

UC's victory over UCONN on saturday looks even more impressive now that UCONN just knocked off #3 Villanova. Big game tomorrow night for the Bearcats on the road against South Florida

The blizzard did not keep Ramundo's (local pizza place I work at) from being shut down. We were pretty slow from 4-6, slowest I can ever remember. Some nice gentlemen came down to the shop and and ordered a $5.99 Italian Sausage sandwich. Handed me a crisp twenty dollar bill, said...thanks for coming in and making my food, keep the change. Thank you kind sir.

Not going back to UC tonight, don't wanna make the parents drive in these conditions/I want to watch the olympics on HDTV/I wanna sleep in my bed under the warm down comforter. Doesn't get much better than that.

Too Young.

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games have officially started, not without some tragic event. Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvi was killed on a practice run just two days before he was suppose to compete in his event. I did not agree with NBC's decision to show the video of his crash, they later apologized for it and stated they wouldn't show the video again. It kind of put the rest of the country of Georgia in a bad spot. During the opening ceremonies, the shots of the country were gut wrenching. All eleven members parading in for the country were stone faced. No expressions of happiness whatsoever. That's not how it should have been for those athletes and coaches that put in all the training to get there. Nodark Kumaritashvi was 21 when he lost control of his sled, and lost his life. As the president of Georgia said, an athlete's mistake should not be the lost of life. The man was too young. You better believe that I'll be rooting for every Georgian in every competition, even if they are going up against Americans.

Not really sure how to make a smooth transition from that to talking about other things, sooooo, ummmmm....how about them Bearcats yesterday? Huge win on the road against Uconn. The team really stepped up in a must win game. Can't celebrate too much, road game against a dangerous South Florida team tuesday night.

The Cincinati Enquirer sucks. Period. They describe Xavier's victory yesterday, as an NCAA tournament resume builder. Claimed Florida to be a 'Powerhouse.' Congrats to Jordan Crawford for getting his 18 points, only took him 19 shots to get him there!

Speed skating finals last night were pretty intense; gotta thank the Korean for handing us the silver and bronze medal. It's going to be an exciting olympics, for sure.

How boring were the NBA events last night? Pathetic. Hopefully the actual all-star game is more exciting than the dunk and horse competition.

Another epic Big East basketball game took place friday night. Pittsburgh knocked off West Virginia in triple overtime. Unlike most multi-overtime games both teams were making shots to force other overtimes. Just another Big East epic game.

Amazingly Awesome.

Blah. Boring night at the rec center last night. We had to wait forever to get a court, a lot of people were down there. Were there for two and a half hours, only played two games, 1-1. Two of my friends and I were matched up with two other random people down there, they sucked. One should not have been playing basketball, the other was just looking to fight other people. Not fun at all; we made sure to inform the other team that we weren't friends with him. Possibly going back down to rec center after my last class at two, still haven't decided.

The opening ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics are tonight. Summer olympics are better but the winter games still get me pretty excited. Gotta love the world wide competition between the greatest athletes in the world.

Finally got around to watching monday night's episode of 24...WOW! Jack Bauer is back, holy cow! He got stabbed, the knife was stuck in him, simply took it out and chucked it across the room and drilled someone right in the throat. Unrealistic? Yes. Amazingly Awesome? Yes.

Got a 100% on my second Sociology exam! got at 92.5% on the first one. There are four total, AND she drops the lowest score, very good chance I'll get an A in the class...woohooo!

Down Year.

Thank you snow! Had all of Tuesday off, didn't do much with the free time, but it was just nice to relax all day..played euchre for a solid three hours straight.

Going to the rec center tomorrow to play basketball, it has been awhile. I'll keep ya posted on how my team performs.

NBA All-Star weekend, guessing I am one of the few people excited for that. I enjoy the NBA very much, those who don't...well I don't know, it's good stuff.

What's up with UNC this year? After tonight's loss against Duke they are now 2-7 in the ACC..on the verge of missing the NCAA tournament. Say what? UNC on the verge of not making the dance? Major down year for the Tarheels.

Keep On Waiting.

Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints for winning the Superbowl. I honestly didn't care who won, just wanted to see a good game which it was. Kind of a feel good story for the Saints and Drew Brees. The man has had a very eventful year with the passing of his mother and the birth of his son.

Anyone check out the
college basketball rankings today? Three Big East teams in the top five. Pretty impressive. Bob Knight said today on College Basketball Live that this conference is the deepest one in history. Would love to see someone try and argue that. I think there will only be 9 teams that make the NCAA tourney but it wouldn't surprise me if 11 got the call on selection sunday.

With the football season officially ending and the recent continuation of struggles by UC basketball, I'm getting more and more exited about the upcoming baseball season. Opening day is roughly two months; can't wait to spend
cool summer nights down at the ballpark.

On To The Next One.

Cya Mick Cronin. UC lost today 71-54 to #3 Syracuse. Great first half of play by the Bearcats, even had a lead at the 12 minutes timeout in the second half, 49-43. Wait a second, 28-5 run by the other team to end the game? Seriously?

Yes Syracuse is good, and yes they are one of my candidates to make the final 4. But to have them on their heels and let the game slip away..and manage to get blown out..that comes down to coaching. Why aren't your best two players on the floor with five minutes left in the game down by four? It's not like Mick was using strategical substitution to give the players a rest, he had them out for several minutes.

Mick has the talent, something needs to happen. Either a coaching change or better performances from this team. No time to sulk around, gotta get ready to finish out the brutal Big East schedule. As Jay-Z says, on to the next one. Whether it's a new coach or regrouping for the next game...on to the next one.

Absolutely Pathetic.

Never have liked Paul Daugherty of the Cincinnati Enquirer, especially don't after his post today. "Jordan Crawford, the best scorer in this city since Steve Logan. The Musketeers were dead in the water in the 2nd half at UMass last night, until Crawford decided they weren’t." Seriously Paul?...like seriously? It was against UMASS!!!! The kid is good, not that good, UC has two just as good scorers on its roster, Stephenson and Vaughn. Yeah the kid averages 19 points a game, but look at what he has done against, respectable opponents..

In a 71-61 loss to Marquette, 4 of 20 shooting, 0-3 from three point range. 9 points.
In a 69-64 loss to Baylor, 6 of 19 shooting. 1-6 from three point range. 16 points.
In a 71-56 loss to Kansas State, 5 of 13 shooting. 1-5 from three point range. 16 points.

Vaughn or Stephenson don't average 19 points a game, they also don't shoot the ball nearly as much as him. Vaughn has attempted 196 shots on the year, Stephenson has taken 214. Jordan Crawford, in the same amount of games as the other two, has taken a whopping 337 attempts. He shoots a ton. Congrats on being able to score against St. Joseph's and Fordham?

Crawford is good, don't get me wrong, definitely has a bright future ahead of him. But to throw him in the same category as Steve Logan, seriously Paul? Pathetic. Absolutely Pathetic.

Got The Munchies?

It's February 3rd, national signing day for football. UC lost several commitments, people who changed their mind, including two low life's from Saint Xavier. Anyway, I believe this is a very solid recruiting class. This morning, last minute...UC got a commitment from a Dual-Threat QB from New Orleans. The name...Munchie Legaux. Pass first quarterback that has the speed to get himself out of trouble. Sweet name, great player. Other highlights of this class include a wide receiver from Indiana, Dyjuan Lewis. Also, local linebacker Solomon Tentman. I see both players getting playing time from the very beginning of their freshmen season.

Currently I am reading a chat with head coach Butch Jones, happening live over at Enquirer.com. Someone had the guts to ask him: "Do you have a "Dream Job" that we should be made aware of?" Butch Jones response; "Yes.....University of Cincinnati." I know coaches tend to go back on their word but like I've said before, I'm getting good vibes from this man. I see a bright future for the UC football program.

Been kinda sick all week but that didn't stop me from playing basketball last night. Went 3-2, should have been 4-1. Oh well.

Getting pretty excited for thursday night. Boneless thursday at Bw3's, UC game on espn2 vs Notre Dame at 9. Hopefully we can manage to pull out a huge road win in the Big East.
